Description

omnib2dsync allows the user to sync the Backup to Disk (B2D) library inventory in the Data Protector IDB with the current (at runtime) slot information from the corresponding backup device. This helps to identify stale media on the backup device consuming storage capacity or media still present in the Data Protector IDB. It is designed for HPE StoreOnce, Dell EMC Data Domain and Data Protector StoreOnceSoftware.

There are various reasons for a mismatch between the IDB and the backup device. Power failures of a backup device, crashing agents during backup or cleanup to name a few. This solution can also be used to recover using B2D libraries quickly. The B2D library configuration with library and gateways must exist (or re-created) in Data Protector prior to the sync operation. Backing up the devices in Data Protector is out of scope of this solution.

Minimum Requirements

  • Executed on a Data Protector Cell Manager where the user has admin rights in the Data Protector Userlist
  • Data Protector commands omnidownload, omniupload and omnib2dinfo are used, part of Cell Console (GUI)
  • Executed with a perl5 runtime (works with Data Protector built-in perl5 distribution)
  • Communication to backup system required:
    • HPE StoreOnce Catalyst (9387/TCP and 9388/TCP)
    • StoreOnceSoftware (9387/TCP and 9388/TCP)
    • Data Domain Boost (111/TCP and 2049/TCP)
